knowledge for the guest at the tea room

茶室に入る(広間)enter the tea room(larg room)
1 place the fan in front of you
扇子を前に置く
open the fusuma
ふすまを開ける
2place your hands on the tatami
両手を畳につく
ryote o tatami ni tsukeru
look in to the room
席中をうかがう
3 move the fan forward
扇子を前に進める
sensu o mae ni susumeru
4 slide into the chashitsu
茶室に入る
chashitsu ni nijitte hairu

Dosa
lean=たてかけるtatekakeru
水指しにふたをたてかける=lean the lid against the side of mizusashi
draw=汲む kumu
湯を汲む=draw the hot water
examine=たしかめる tashikameru
穂先をたしかめる=examine the tines
lift=上げる ageru
穂先をあげる=lift the chasen
rinse=すすぐ susugu
茶筅をすすぐ=rinse the chasen
rest=あずける
茶筅を茶碗にあずける=rest the chasen on the edge of the chawan

Chakai deno kyaku no kokoroe
薄茶を飲む(次客の例)
Example of the manner for drinking tea (in the case 0f jikyaku)
1 place the chawan between you and the first guest inside the line
正客との間、縁内に茶碗を置く)
shokyaku tono aida,heriuchi ni chawan o oku
2 say to shokyaku, "oshoban itashimasu"meaning: "I will join you"
正客に「お相伴いたします」と挨拶する
shokyaku ni "oshoban itashimasu"to aisatsu suru
3 place the chawan between you and next guest
次の客との間に茶碗を置く
4 say to the next guest."osaki ni"
meaning:"Excuse me for going ahead of you" 次に客に「お先に」と挨拶する
tsugi no kyaku ni "osaki ni"to aisatsu suru
5 place the chawan in front of you inside the line
膝前正面縁内に茶碗を置く
hizamae shomen heriuchi ni chawan o oku
6 say to the host "otemae chodai itashimasu"
meaning:"Thank you for the tea"
亭主に「お手前頂戴いいたします」と挨拶する
teishu ni "otemae chodai itashimasu"to aisatsu suru
